Orthodontics is a field focusing on solving aesthetical and functional deficiencies of dental arcades through teeth alignment and correction of jaw bones gaps.
The most frequent dental anomalies that braces treat are:
- Crowded teeth or interdental spaces
- Teeth shifted from their normal alignment
Orthodontic appliances can be fixed or mobile and choosing the appropriate one is dependent on age and the level of deficiency:
Fixed appliances (with brackets):
- Metal braces
- Ceramic braces
- Sapphire braces
- Lingual braces (Incognito)
Mobile appliances – these are in general recommended to children during their growth phase. They are used for correcting crowded teeth, maintaining the necessary interdental space in case of premature temporary teeth loss and to create space for permanent teeth eruption if needed.
An important role in mobile appliances is to correct vicious habits which are frequent such as: atypical swallowing, finger licking, lip interposition between the arcades, interposition of various objects between the arcades (pens, pencils). All of these lead to the loss of the dental system’s balance.
Invisalign – invisible and removable custom made plastic aligners, worn for min. 16hrs a day
The duration of the treatment varies based on the orthodontic diagnosis of each patient
